Administrative Note:
Due to technical difficulties, the CPR assignment is not accessible. The problem should be resolved later today. I will send out announcements when it is open.

Today's Topic: Aromatic Carbon Metabolism

Prokaryotic metabolism is diverse, with pathways we do not find in eukaryotic systems. Among some of the more interesting pathways are those used to degrade aromatic carbons. You may remember from Organic chemistry that aromatic compounds are very stable, so how do you digest them? That is your topic for review today!

Daily Challenge:
Review the section on aromatic catabolism in your textbook. Give a general overview of the process of breaking down aromatic compounds, and then delve into a pathway that you find interesting. The pathway does not need to be in your textbook. You can look on line for some interesting aromatic catabolic pathways. As an example, how is trinitrotoluene broken down?
